Graduate manager - The worst job I have ever had
Pros
The monthly pay was good for a graduate scheme. The interview process and induction was good and inciting but was a bad representation of the real company. Do not be fooled by it.
Cons
The staff are miserable. Everyone is overworked and underpaid. Expecting a new employee to work 50+ hours for no extra pay or incentive is unreasonable. The management scheme seemed fantastic until you get to your first store. The store manager was obviously threatened by me and my new position so offered no training and shoved me on tills for my first week. Requested training and was told that they were too busy. Was mocked for having a degree and told "this place isn't for graduates like you it's for people like me that have worked my way up." The store I was in was in a terrible area so a lot of shoplifting and I was threatened by a junkie on my first shift. No support from managers at all- the area managers with their big ideas had no clue about what the graduates were put into and clearly had not briefed the store managers on how to deal with or train graduates. On top of that the uniform is hideous, they will hire anyone at all it seems and the staff room was a dark cupboard. None of the graduates I started with lasted more than a couple of months and the graduate from the year before even warned us all that it's not a nice place to be. No amount of money is worth this. I dreaded going to work and felt so relieved to leave.
