Pros

-Roles and responsibilities are clearly set out -Large, diverse teams -Ability to move sideways, from team to team if you are unhappy with your responsibilities -Well compensated -Wellness is a priority for the business

Cons

-Changes in contract are extremely rare, even if your request is well argued -A lot of management are egotistical in the hierarchical structure -Opinions of staff in 'lower' grade roles not listened too -No( or very few) opportunities for progression -Work is not often efficiently distributed, leaving many teams without a workload.

Important work spoiled by inability to manage

Pros

The services provided are very important for the country and those residing in it, which makes you feel the work is very worthwhile.

Cons

The senior management seem incapable of learning how to lead the organisation at a time of financial stress. They expend their energy on transformations which seem to ignore the delivery demands, justified on grounds of cost savings but probably not achieving even that.

Pros

The pension is the only great benefit

Cons

Full of two faced, hypocritical, sycophantic people. You can’t really trust anyone, especially the management. On my first day, after taking almost 18mths from application to start date, I arrived at the office and nobody knew I was starting that day. My new manager is off that day, nobody knew I have a health condition despite it being on my application, but that’s my fault, of course!! Most senior managers blatantly spreading misinformation about me. Every, little mistake blown up into full on misconduct only to be reversed when they actually ask for my side of the story. On edge all the time, constantly treading on eggshells. If you’re considering hoping the Home Office, don’t do it!!!
