Career suicide

Pros

- good people to work with - great for graduates / apprentices or those working in HO development schemes - very respectful of family / caring commitments and flexible working arrangements - great for those who are strong at self-promotion Recommend to graduates, apprentices, those nearing retirement, those planning children in the short term or those who are outspoken, can shamelessly self-promote getting in there with the privately educated old boys club that is very much present the higher you go.

Cons

Working in the Civil service was near career suicide for me. Senior leaders are often out of touch with what happens on the ground, don't 'actually' listen to their staff, are very, very much about self preservation and never seem to have a clear vision. I've worked with some fantastic people, with great backgrounds and high levels of integrity who will never, ever have a shot at senior leadership positions because they don't 'talk the talk', and they care too much about their staff and the meeting the true needs of the public.

Pros

The salary is very good. Work with an extremely diverse workforce. Excellent pension scheme. Opportunity to join different teams. Undertaking casework is interesting - use problem-solving and analysis skills and employ sound judgement when making decisions.

Cons

Extremely anti-social hours. This leads to a poor work-life balance. Work can sometimes be monotonous. Can sometimes feel a bit nepotistic, and success can sometimes be based on who you know rather than what you know.

Pros

There are absolutely 0 pros whatsoever

Cons

Do you have a disability?? Do you qualify under the equality act?? do you have any personal commitments? Do you enjoy being micromanaged, bullied, and have no one care about you?? Then look no further, home office Manchester Soapworks is an amazing place for you to be unvalued, have high workloads, have the worst office culture there is! This will leave you on the verge of suicide! The training is horrible and the amount of team leaders and senior managers who are out of their depth is phenomenal
