      Any sales position at IBM is not stable, get real consutling skills then get out on top.

      The name and possibly some free training when you are breaking into your first IT industry job or consulting job,

      Cons

      All of the people I started with 15 years ago (about 100) have quit or been let go. Even the star performers were eventually stabbed in the back by their old managers who were just using them to do all their work after putting in 15 years with excellent performace! Almost all management in IBM sales is over age 45 and has spent their career firing people under them to keep their jobs, that is until they are eventually fired in a power struggle with their boss, who may temporarily promote someone good. STAY out of sales at IBM and get real skills in consulting if you are somehow stuck in sales. Get certified in Project management or something.

      Rated as one of the top 100 Canadian employers until 2006. Off the list since 2007. Coincidence? I think not.

      Pros

      Very competitive salary in the Toronto / Ontario region Flexible work arrangements - flex hours, working at home IBM still viewed highly in the industry - looks good on the resume

      Cons

      Layers of management and bureaucracy to wade through, wasting your time from doing your actual work Little to no organic innovation Rewards those who play the political game and position themselves well, rather than those who consistently output quality work 50-55 hour weeks are the norm, with 60-65 crunch weeks often enforced, for weeks and months at a time

      Pros

      Hard to be let go once you are a regular employee. Work hours are normally steady without much change. Large company with multiple locations to work.

      Cons

      Only brings on contractors for low pay. Pay raises are practically non existant. Lateral moves to other positions are hard to get unless you know somebody.
