Just When You Thought It Couldn’t Get Any Worse

Pros

Direct colleagues are supportive - everyone knows we have to stick together for the sake of our sanity. Decent pay though eroded by inflation Bupa and Pension

Cons

Forced into the office two days per week purely for the sake of presenteeism. Sitting in a busy noisy office with everyone on Teams calls with colleagues in India and other parts of the UK. Office is so busy that you’re sitting next to randoms that you don’t know. Offices being closed and everyone forced into hubs or they lose their jobs. They wonder why motivation is low. It’s a toxic culture of CEO and team not listening and forcing the senior managers to operate under policies they don’t agree with. Senior managers are toeing the line but they’re demotivated too. No need for senior managers as they have autonomy anyway. Restructuring every 6 months so nobody feel confident in their roles. It’s hostile and everyone is walking on egg shells. Far too many good performing people are losing their jobs purely because of where they live. This nonsense of only recruiting people who live locally serves to hamper people’s career opportunities, loses decent people their jobs and hampers the business because it limits the pool that managers can recruit from. We can only recruit the best people from that location when the best person lives elsewhere. It’s utterly demoralising. Flexible working has been removed which is just leading to burn out and mistakes being made. Worst of all is the fact that the CEO and team openly admit they don’t care what people think and they definitely aren’t in listening mode. I’ve never known a CEO like it. His way or the highway!

Pros

I personally found the bank's values to be a good motivator. Plenty of internal vacanies available at any one time. I was afforded penty of understanding around my ill health. A good place to start a career.

Cons

Pay increases not in line with RPI. Unions appeared strong-armed into poor multi-year pay offer that I voted to reject but ultimately passed. Becoming more and more focussed on their profits and it seems like employee happiness has been given less priority as a result. Feedback on this appears to have been given little consideration. Constant internal shake-ups lead to job losses, including my own.

Terrible culture

Pros

None, its a hard avoid for anyone with morals or values

Cons

Very toxic culture. In a recent meeting, senior HR leaders were shown a QR code to open up glassdoor and specifically asked to spend the next few minutes writing a positive review. This is their response to poor scores rather than addressing the systemic issues being driven by Charlie and Sharon.
