Pros

Very good training, strong opportunities, ability to move around within the company. Company allows flex time and in some cases you can work from home. Particularly good company for people starting their career

Cons

The bureaucracy can be difficult to navigate. Many locations are not near public transportation.

Pros

Strong ethical culture. Good training, development, and mentoring opportunities. Good ability to rotate between assignments and gain tremendously diverse experience. Good benefits.

Cons

Platform focused company, so you want to be in a platform focused part of the business. Strong rich process set, which can at times means he business struggles to be nimble.

Pros

9/80 work schedule. Benefits. Potential security clearance which might lead to other work for more money for a competitor. If you want to be left alone, you can have that in spades. Many locations to choose from.

Cons

After 12 years I've concluded that LM is a collection of units flying in very loose formation. One review here reports very helpful co-workers, I'm reporting the diametric opposite. It took 5 YEARS before I stood a 50% chance of getting my phone call returned. Ask for help - get "the hand." Every change the company has made lately either costs the employee more or reduces their chance for salary growth. Overtime is only paid for catastrophic situations where management blew the schedule. No training. No means of networking. No helping others with their tasks - that will burn up the budget. Once you're doing a specialist overhead task you are IT for the rest of your career. (my program is reported by others who have other experience to be especially chaotic and brutal. My program location is bogus. I'd get fired instantly for saying the above.)

Pros

Loyal, hard working colleagues with some of the best minds in the industry. Professional collegiate atmosphere depending on area of the business and programme you are working on. Work / life balance is good with flex-time policies and a culture which acknowledges family commitments and the need to balance.

Cons

Company is struggling to remain competitive in a changing market. Transformation programmes are as slow to be implemented as one would expect from a huge Corporation; unfortunately this is translating into short term actions such as cost cutting in training, research & development and benefits. Salaries lag behind competitors and continue to fall in competitiveness.

Pros

Overall, a good employer willing to help you with training and growth. Metric driven and wants to keep you as an employee. Decent Benefits

Cons

Culture can be very corporate. Healthcare is becoming worse and worse. During restructuring you are locked into your job until the finish spin off analysis, approx. 6 months.

Pros

Job stress is low. The ability to cross train in various departments provides good exposure to various fields. Company provides in-house training in areas unrelated to engineering such as communicating and time management.

Cons

Not particularly challenging assignments but work assignments were steady. Ability to advance is severely limited despite your professional experience and professional credentials. Engineering licensure is not urged since most in engineering management do not posses the minimum "E.I." status never mind a "P.E." stamp.

Pros

Well organized company, good software tools with good benefits. They have some very good in-house training along with some mandatory training.

Cons

Not real good at integrating new hires or new businesses. It takes a long time to learn the Lockheed Martin way of doing business.

Pros

The 4/10 work schedule if you are on it. It rough at first getting used to, but it's so worth it in exchange for having Fridays off. Benefits aren't half bad. Short of a few specific things, it's pretty difficult to get fired. However if you are an hourly employee you have it made. Plus, how many people can say they build missiles for a living?

Cons

Just as any company in the defense industry, you are pretty much at the mercy of our government and their budgets. Advancement following a technical career path is very limited and difficult. Going up the company ladder under the management umbrella is much easier near limitless. Oddly, you can be leader and have people who are a higher labor working for you. Despite the huge amount of training classes available, very few of them are actually offered.

Pros

extremely flexible schedule, good work/life balance

Cons

Lower pay, employees are lower skilled; this is not a place for IT professionals or new college hires; company does not provide technical training - " do it on your own time". Pension created a "golden handcuff" culture which results in A LOT of employees not actually wanting to be there and more interested in keeping things the same than delivering innovation and value to customers and taxpayers. Security clearance jobs DO NOT pay more - at least in IT at Lockheed. IT careers will languish here technically and leadership wise. Many Work/office spaces have 30-40 year old Furniture and 10-20 yo carpet, etc that is dirty and worn. Work environment is less than average. Many Employees lack social and personable skills which effects culture.
