Pros

I would like to first mention that yes the “pay package” is good in comparison with competitors however the amount of work you have to do and expectations are ridiculous.

Cons

So I’ll start this off I’m a university student and I struggle with bad ADHD. I find living away from home hard to manage because of this, it affects me at work. 1. No guidance, wasn’t any former training when switching between roles. Was never properly trained by managers and always felt like I was ignored. 2. Management don’t seem to follow what’s in my contract, I do every weekend and im still expected to do shifts in the week even though my contract says I’m only contracted to weekends, then I get called “inflexible” 3. Terrible working conditions, Expected to do multiple jobs for the same amount of pay. On a morning fill, the fill team is expected to do a ridiculous amount of work. 4. Putting my holidays in but then still making me do my contracted hours? 5. No reasonable adjustments made for me and no guidance by any of my managers, feel as though that I can’t talk to anyone and nobody takes me seriously. 6. Bad communication - putting my into shifts without asking me, not allowing for holidays. 7. Poor progression - about a year ago I was going to progress to then be told that there’s no places after being told that I had a place, I was expected to drive to a location that’s practically impossible to get to considering it’s a school leavers programme….

Pros

- some discount on M&S store

Cons

- Managers are incompetent and poor leaders. - There is no feedback loop i.e. there is no feedback taken from employees about the manager or the company. - Work from office is being mandated from March 2024 - Extremely poor work life balance. People slog till 10-11 pm on normal days and work on most weekends too!!

Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Whilst we're happy to hear you're making use of our colleague discount benefit; we know this is highly-valued by our colleagues, we're disappointed to hear that you feel unsupported by your managers and the business as a whole. We’ll ensure to feed this back to the relevant team but in the meantime, do reach out to your local BIG Rep or HRBP to discuss your concerns and frustrations. Again, thanks for leaving such an honest review. Marks and Spencer

Pros

I would say the only pros at this point is the staff discount

Cons

- Ridiculous work patterns, making you work almost everyday with a different schedule - Understaffed at the maximum, with pressure from high level to cut even more hours - Managers acting against the policy, making people work shifts with less than 11h between them and later "making up" on the system, so it won't flag (I saw a lot of different managers doing this) - They promise me progressing to team manager, made me work almost one year as TM, getting paid as a customer assistant (all the managerial work that required a manager's login was done using a fellow manager's employee number) - After this ridiculous situation, I asked to reduce my hours to take care of my mental health and go back to study, and I was coerced to resign and leave the company. I'll have to mention this coercion happened on a meeting with two managers I've never seen, without any witness and notice. The list goes on and on and on, but the summary is: what they pay you is far from enough to what they do to your mental health.
