Pros

You will learn a lot of sales tactics and old school selling techniques. Good Commission

Cons

Sales process is so old school(for some reason they are proud of it. It is literally like the mafia .You need to suck it up to your boss . As long as you have his /her blessings you will be safe . Your promotion and your tenure is more dependent on how well you suck it up . No product strategy. In today's world where there are multiple and cheaper ways to collect information what the product offers and the pricing they quote don't match I know it is very common in sales but don't cheat the client. They quote different prices for the same product. It is unreasonably too much and don't think of the customer as a fool ( which is what is being shared by the great MDs and they treat and talk about the customer as someone who knows very little )

Pros

Aggressive management and sales team Good market share with simple product and service

Cons

When sales target is the key focus, someone gets highlight at an early age and become arrogant and takes things for granted Boasting becomes normal skills and that makes churn a result When I left the sales role after acquisition, no one cares and handles my last month commission, so make sure you get yours cleared before leaving, especially don't leave when you have a decent amount of pending commission on that month Some MD don't really qualify for their role, call them managers please, coz they are managers only indeed. I hear some Chinese managers showing off "awesome" English in front of fortune 100 Chinese customers who clearly don't enjoy it.

Pros

- Great variety of snacks & drinks - Fun team outings - Due to all the pressure and stress, I now don't expect anything as high-strung as the Meltwater culture. A Pro if you're to change companies and take your skills elsewhere. I don't regret it; it's taught me what to look out for, both positive and negative, in any organization.

Cons

- Leadership. Little to non-existent. Understand the difference between a leader and a boss. - No work-life balance. Broken record here but it's a fact. 7a - 6a then outings with the team.. Plus salaries are WAYY below market. Know your worth. - Little to no transparency in expectations and career path. - Questionable ethics from certain comments (from leadership) to weird employee-manager relationships. - Toxic work environment, no question. - If you're good at sales, you'll be promoted to "manager". This should be looked into. Great salesperson does not mean great manager/leader.

Thanks for your review, and sorry to hear you feel this way about your time at Meltwater. Work-life balance can mean different things to different people, especially at a social company where people are genuinely close friends. But we're always looking to evaluate and improve in this area. What you have described regarding ethics is not consistent with our values and is not representative of the company as a whole. Leadership, managers and HR are here to listen to employees concerns and we take that very seriously.
