Pros

Develop sales skills. Make friends with colleagues.

Cons

Anxiety, stress, constant pressure to sell, unethical business practices. Be prepared to burn contacts because your manager forces you to call 15 times in one day or email every hour to sign a contract, especially last day of the month. Shady short sighted business practices. Micromanagement is a severe understatement. Emails are proof read and you are trained to “parrot” what your manager is telling you to say on a live call as they listen in without the client knowing. You are told to “turn off your brain”. Also, it’s not media “intelligence” it’s a glorified news clipping service that provides minimal value to organizations, but you are expected to shove the product down clients throats anyway. I am SHOCKED clients pay what they pay.

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback. As far as compensation goes, we do pay on an hourly basis so we can pay employees for the exact number of hours they work. Our product is the global leader in the space with 30,000 customers utilizing Meltwater's services every day. When it comes to diversity, we take great pride in being a diverse, global company and have taken great strides into making these changes visible and consistent across all regions. What you're describing is not consistent with our values. People are centric to everything we do at Meltwater, and we promote based on leadership potential and commitment to our core values. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Benefits are VERY good (health, vision, and dental), and honestly the reason I was there so long and put up with so much 2 weeks vacation in your first year, 4 weeks vacation every year after that Last work day of the month ("Closing Day") is themed and generally fun Lots of free food/snacks Good work/life balance if you aren't in sales (40 hours/week)

Cons

Where to begin? If you aren't working in sales, you don't matter to the company whatsoever, and will be left out of everything, then criticized for not being a team player. Every office is primarily a sales office, and you have to wear formal attire to cold call and email people all day. They play EDM and Techno music at the loudest possible volume levels, and building management is constantly bombarded with noise complaint requests from neighboring companies in the building. Clients will constantly complain about not being able to hear you over the phone, only being able to hear songs with lots of swearing and sexual references. Claim they are diverse but roughly 99% of hires are white. The non-sales portion of the company is a joke, with the focus and goals changing every 2-3 months. The internal software is a mess. There are constant changes to the UI that remove useful features for no reason, causing lots of headaches and stress just to complete simple tasks. Because Meltwater only cares about sales numbers and revenue, salespeople are constantly forced to lie to clients, and make them promises that are impossible for support to deliver. This leads to angry clients, and client turnover. No matter though, because it's all about how many new clients they can get to sign up, not retention or satisfaction. There are constant money issues in the company, yet sales staff are still given thousands in monthly stipends for happy hours and beer for Friday afternoon meetings. Environment as a whole is just very toxic, with lots of managers who talk down to their employees. For example, taking an hour off to go to the doctor or dentist is highly frowned upon. To the company's credit, they actually did work to remove some of the more toxic managers, but it took over 18 months of reports before HR actually investigated and acted. No career growth or raises unless you're sales, and even then, promotions are pretty much in name only.

Thank you for taking time to share this feedback. I’m sorry that you are feeling this way about our culture and team, however, that is not consistent with our values or training and is not something we have heard feedback on internally. Meltwater has been working remote for the last 18 months, so our offices and culture amongst those teams have changed dramatically. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the benefits at Meltwater, these benefits also include health, dental and time off for short and long term health needs. We apologize if that wasn't your experience and wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors.
