      High tech, Cool work, unrealistic program management

      Pros

      Our products are all about the technology. The technology is interesting, the work is challenging. We work on products that bring war-fighters home alive, or better yet, keep them out of harm's way altogether. The engineers are focused on providing new, creative better solutions to our customer's problems.

      Cons

      The relentless pressure on productivity. Every program is too tight on funding. Baltimore has a unionized manufacturing workforce. We are in a continual mode of rationalizing cost over-runs because we cannot seem to accurately bid any job. Our typical program management response to any quote is "cut the dollars by a third, and the time in half."

      Pros

      Pay, benefits, flexible work hours. Interesting and challenging work. Decent tools. The pension plan is one of the few I'm aware of within the industry. 401k offers matching up to 3 or 4%. They are now offering a health plan named Lumenos by Blue Cross Blue Shield which my family has really liked. Its the best health care plan I have had in many years. Company is making an effort to standardize across all organizations.

      Cons

      Company is very segmented making the work environment inconsistent between organizations and programs. People can be parochial resisting looking outside of their immediate work groups. This makes moving between organizations more difficult.
