Pros
Brilliant benefits for staff including subsided tickets for events, organised day trips, cheaper deals. Discount off at Waitrose of 15%, 25% off John Lewis not including electricals which are discounted 12.5% for staff and one other house hold member
Time and a half pay on a sunday although this has been stopped for new starts
Very informative electronic training scheme
Are willing to employ 16 year olds and pay them the same as over 18's, the pay is generally much better at Waitrose for an under 20 than other retail work
Good breaktimes which you never have to work through, good dining room with cooked meals
Almost always go home on time at the end of a shift
In conclusion, Waitrose is an absolutely brilliant starter job for someone still at school, at University, or someone a bit older who wants to get back into working.
Cons
The work is repetitive
Some sections in the branches are better to work in than others. I wouldn't recommend checkouts or cafe as they are very repetitive and busy
Not a huge amount of opportunity to advance in the business although I saw it happen occasionally.
The company tends to pull in staff from other branches to replace management instead of promoting someone who already works there
I would recommend as a part time job for someone at school, not so much for someone who wants full time with an opportunity to progress unless they enter on a grad sceme
