Pros

I had the flexibility to exclusively work early morning shifts

Cons

Soulless management who have no regard for personal wellbeing, worst of all they refused to fire somebody who regularly used racial slurs towards minority employees. The offending worker received a 2 week suspension and was 'demoted' to work on the shop floor instead of at the bakery. An absolutely foul old man who made people feel unsafe and uncared for at work. The management truly didn't care, instead they were considerably more interested in getting people to sign onto taking up extra hours. I wasn't fond of the general work ethic either, as a university student on a temp contract I'd be given the worst tasks whilst many employers contributed very, very little, if anything at all to the general operation of the branch. Presenteeism was rife and I quickly caught onto the fact that looking busy mattered considerably more to the management than being productive - after all there was always more work to do.

Pros

Pay was okay. There are some company benefits after you've been there for a while

Cons

Pay was really not that great for the amount of work we had to do, working conditions were horrible in the cafe, managers were lazy and didn't want to get involved. Seriously overworked. Rotas were given to us so late that sometimes I only knew a few days in advance what my schedule for the following week was. The 'Partners' ethos is a bit of a joke.

Pros

Pleasant staff, mostly pleasant customers. Employee discount was above average.

Cons

I worked for them for two years and both years they denied my holiday requests repeatedly meaning I had to fight each January to have my remaining holiday allowance paid to me before it was lost. They pushed and pushed me to be crosstrained across the store (I ended up working in 9 roles and training new people in 8 of them) but kept my pay at the bottom of the lowest level, despite their guidelines stating being crosstrained meant you should move up in your pay range. They always had tons of overtime, but would never allow people to have full time hours. They changed my contracted hours a lot (from 8/week to 5/week to 12.5/week to 18.5/week to 11/week to 15/week in the space of 2 years) but always expected me to be fully flexible and work up to 20 hours/week overtime regardless of my contracted hours. I started off on a xmas temp contract and they wouldn't tell me whether they were keeping me on until 2 days before my contracted ended, causing me a lot of stress and financial uncertainty.
