Pros
-Decent Pay -Good benefits -Profit sharing(unless your facility isn’t profitable, in which case they kick you out of their profit-sharing pool so you don’t affect their flagship plants. Even if you took a pay-cut to work here factoring in the profit sharing as income, because they use that as a selling point)
Cons
-Ridiculously excessive safety program, spun out of the realm of reason. Get used to long sleeves in the summer, hard hats, and no watches or wedding rings, just to name a few needless rules -Management views you as potential savings which they can report to their superiors. The longer you’ve been there and the higher your pay, the more likely they are to terminate you regardless of your performance, capabilities, knowledge, or tenure -Management treats you like a stray dog: they pat you on the head when they need you, but you are just a nuisance when you need them -Management protects management, and bottles up any acts of discrimination or misconduct. When their “anonymous” ethics line is called on a manager, management’s first act is to think of every way they can dismiss what was stated. Their second act is to try and identify the caller to put a target on their back -Management makes you do side chores and tally points each month to show them how engaged you are, because they are incapable of assessing your engagement by the work you do -Management only asks your opinion because their management training tells them they should. They’ve already made their decision before they ask. -Managers only use acquired facilities as a stepping stone for the success of their career, and not the success of the facility. They will have moved on before they have to face the layoffs they cause -This facility is on a 2-3 year layoff cycle, solely dependent on the oil industry -Ridiculously excessive amounts of time spent in meetings or completing procedural documentation, as a welder, assembler, or anyone on the shop floor -Their wellness program is full of challenges you must complete throughout the year to keep them from charging you an extra $40 a month the following year. Do you use tobacco? Tack on another $40 a month.
