Toxic work environment

Pros

Pays well, but I heard it's just to keep people from quitting.

Cons

- 30+% turnover. - Management is narcissistic, abusive, has no bearing on reality, and percieves the world through metrics. - Lots of vaguely dystopian corporate cheerleading meetings to announce your impending doom at the hands of to he lastest micromanagement scheme or stroke the ego of an executive. -The six sigma program is a caricature of the inefficiencies it is meant to eliminate. 3X the industry standard class time, the gating project is too short to complete in the Kafkaesque bureaucratic maze you have to navigate, and you have to go through each belt sequentially (yellow then green then black) to complete the program. Each stage has about 85% washout rate. I think it is primarily a bludgeon to tell employees how worthless they are. - Edwards secret sauce is a tangy blend of apathy and panic. - Yes men abound and are bulletproof, while workhorses are whipped relentlessly until burned out and are discarded. - Here is an actual conversation I had with leaving for the week: "Happy Friday" "Oof, that was a long week, good to be going home." "Were you part of the audit?" "No, just dodging shade from every direction." "So another week at Edwards. . ." Yes, it was.

Bad Environment

Pros

Edwards has bunch of site amenities in Irvine (don’t worry, you will not have a time to use any of them) and good benefits (you won’t be able to stay in the company too long to get benefit) they pay above the average (you will work 70-80 hours so you can consider slicing your salary figure to half) they give you good amount vacation time (you will be expected to be on call/accessible by email during your vacations)

Cons

Bad culture! They burnout people and discard them within 1-2 years and get new warm bodies. They have no mercy for any delays on a product launch. Director and above act like gods and claim no responsibility to any problems. There are so many office politics. Don’t be fooled with cafeteria or other amenities as they are exchanging your personal time with theirs for breakfast/lunch/dinner so you can work more longer hours. 80-90 hours a week pretty normal at Edwards in any business unit and you will work weekends to catch up things.

Pros

It used to be a better place to work

Cons

EW is being completely reckless and irresponsible with employee lives, requiring all 5000 Irvine employees to return to work on campus in July in the middle of a pandemic. It was handled well in the beginning, where employees were working very well from home. It's understandable that some production and shipping employees have to be on-site, but the vast majority of employees have worked very productively from home. We can better protect those who have to be on site, by limiting their exposure to a full campus of 5000 employees. There are many positive Covid-19 cases on site, and they are not sharing it with employees. There are very old buildings and ventilation systems, making it extremely risky for employees to be indoor sitting in cubicles all day. They are not restricting hallways to through traffic only, so employees in cubicles are exposed to large numbers of people walking by unnecessarily. They will not provide any shielding (plexiglass or plastic) to shield workers in cubicles from the large numbers walking by. Leaders were told to have employees take sick or vacation days if they were uncomfortable coming in, but there is no one to cover our work. Once sick and vacation days are used up, employee's only option is to find a new job. In addition to the real physical health risks, these demands are causing extreme anxiety and depression among employees. They recently offered MASKLESS tents, so employees are being exposed to even more risk than necessary. Mask wearing in offices isn't being enforced either. In addition to reckless behavior in a pandemic, there is NO diversity at management and leadership levels. They say it is important, but it is not reflected in their hiring or promotion practices. Current leaders hire and promote people (white males) who look just like them, and think like them also. Both African American and female employees are not able to advance, while less qualified white male counterparts advance steadily through the ranks.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. While many of our employees have continued to work from home during the last several months, we also put processes into place to enable employees them to spend time in the office. We are closely monitoring our current, everchanging environment, consulting with trusted medical advisors, local clinicians, and authorities, and are ensuring that we strictly follow evidence-based safety measures at our offices. Ultimately, we want to ensure we are taking the best steps possible to keep our employees safe. As just a few examples, we have implemented enhanced cleaning processes, ensured the number of people on campus is regulated to 50% or fewer (to allow for physical distancing), require non-contact temperature screenings for anyone coming onto campus, and require employees to practice proper hand hygiene and physical distancing. Currently, face coverings are required with the exceptions of closed offices when employees are alone, or in certain limited, designated outdoor spaces that allow for distanced meetings or dining. Recently, given the current environment, schools starting virtually and other needs, we discussed broadly with our employees that we recognize some will have challenges resuming an on-site work schedule at this time. We encourage employees and their supervisors to have a conversation and to remain flexible when discussing schedules and options. In addition, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continue to learn, listen, and act to strengthen our culture of diversity and inclusion. At Edwards, it is of the upmost importance that employees, of all backgrounds, feel valued and safe in the workplace. We take a strong stand against all injustice and racism. Discrimination, of any kind, is NOT tolerated and we highly encourage you to connect with your Human Resource Partner if you experience or observe these actions, so appropriate steps can be taken.
