Not a bad place to work

Pros

There is opportunity and training at Northrop Grumman, but only for the self-driven individual. Promotions at the lower levels are given fairly. While annual raises were much better in years past, they have been consistent over hte last few years and a new annual bonus structure has been put in place for top performers.

Cons

Little room for significant upward growth with the log jam of "older" senior management who always seem to find a position when theirs goes away or there is a realignment. The benefits have certainly declined over the years, but most of the competitors of similar size have as well.

Pros

The company does exciting things from a technology standpoint. You can get broad experience with out too much bureaucratic interference. Bureaucracy is there with any large 100,000+ organization.

Cons

There used to be a lot of growth opportunities and upward mobility as mid level manager. But due to salary compression and lay-off of Senior Management those jobs are almost nonexistent. Their key value is shareholder performance, even in front of Customer satisfaction. That leaves little value or recognition for the employees. Many of the new managers do not understand the technology or business they are managing.

Pros

Decent salary, interesting work if you can wade through the BS to get to it

Cons

A lot of deadwood. Feels very disorganized and most executives are aloof. Poor engineers are making the good ones quit.
