Challenging, infuriating, pays well, high opportunity to learn

Pros

Money can be great, caliber of people you work with is great, you have tons of flexibility, and loads of opportunity for folks that are good at working independently.

Cons

Very very limited formal training, so without good managers or mentors, this is very tough. So many Oracle groups in large accounts, it is extremely difficult to find symetry and work together. Internal systems are extremely frustrating.

Smart, hard working colleagues that like to work hard and play hard. I knew people that had million dollar years...

Cons

But they were the exception and not the rule. You can make a good living at Oracle but you will work much harder and deal with way more internal politics than any other tech/SW company. The good old boys take care fo the good old boys...

Lots of red tape - lengthy processes and approval chains Very demanding upper management with mixed level of appreciation Micro management of activities - lots of reporting and baby sitting Often battle or have to sell internally more than with customer / prospect Territories assignments constantly changing
