Pros

Adding the title "Engineer" to your resume so you can find a real IT job. High turn over brings plenty of opportunity for promotion

Cons

Getting Promoted doesn't mean you'll get a raise. Also if you say you don't want the promotion without a raise your job will be threatened. If it's a promotion you really want they may have you in an "acting" position until they can hire someone off the street then you get to train them for the job you were "acting" in without increased pay and watch them get the pay you were asking for.

TeKnowledge Response

Thank you for the feedback - I appreciate the time you took to type out your thoughts. This is difficult to respond to, as some of your comments are simply not true. Since I have been working with Tek Experts in Colorado Springs we have only had 2 people in acting roles. And the only reason they were in 'acting' roles was because they had just received increases within the last 3 months and being promoted again. In general, we only will give increases 2 times per year - and both of these positions were acting for a maximum of 3 months while they waited to receive yet another increase. Also, to my knowledge no one's job has ever been 'threatened' by them not taking a promotion. The comment that has been made has been, 'if you're not going to accept the role we will find someone else for the new role who is interested' - I believe truer words cannot be spoken in that case. I tell every new hire, "please don't ask me to change the role: The role is what the role is - you have to decide for yourself if it's right for you". It has been my experience that people who are not happy with the pay for a promotion it is because they want the role to pay more than it does. There is no requirement for someone to take a role if they don't feel the pay is matching their expectation. However, if you make that choice I don't understand why someone would complain about it after the fact. The stack ranking process is no secret. If you're not clear on how the ranking works I would encourage you again to talk to your manager, Ops Manager, or come to me to review it. I encourage all to fully understand your KPI's so you can successfully navigate your career and make the most money you can. I can give you the tools, but it's up to you if you would like to use them. Lastly, we recommend all employees to go to Glassdoor and put in their feedback. I am not looking for people to leave 'Nice reviews' - I am asking them to be honest. Unfortunately, people who are not happy in their current situation tend to be the most outspoken. I am encouraging all to share their feedback in hopes that we will get a full picture of what our employees think. If you're still an employee, instead of posting anonymously on a public forum such as this, I would encourage you come and speak with me directly so we can actually work towards a solution!
