Pros

UBS encourages a good work / life balance. There is no excessive bureaucracy like at some of the American banks and people just get on with their jobs. Everyone I worked with was very friendly and highly skilled. In the technology areas, their interview process is pretty tough, but if you get through it you can be sure you will be working with people who know what they are doing. Their offices are in the city instead of Canary Wharf, which means an easier commute for some.

Cons

They aren't the best payers in the industry. Their offices could do with a bit of a face lift.

Pros

At UBS, it's easy to be a star, because everybody around you lacks any motivation or discernible talent. You'll frequently travel to fun places like London, Zurich and Tokyo for no apparent reason. If you're fortunate enough work on a project that isn't axed due to lack of interest or boredom on the part of management, you'll have unlimited time lines to complete even the simplest of tasks, since nobody will ever pressure you to work as that may ruin your friendship and personal relationships are far more important than the success of the business.

Cons

Management is totally incompetent. Compensation is very weak. Technology is a joke (even though they think they're cutting edge). Nobody cares if you make any sort of progress (education, career, otherwise). Officers (such as the COO) verbally assault entire departments and publicly make lewd jokes about individuals they don't care for. Your liberties will be infringed upon (you'll work any hours they want you to, takes calls during sick & vacation time, and rid yourself of any personal websites or blogs, it's against their policy).

Pros

Global invest banking is a very interesting place to work especially if you've never been to such place before. The salary is good and some feeling of stability is also nice.

Cons

Probably as an every other global organization there are certain problems with communication. This include team members from different regions communicating to each other, different teams around sharing knowledge, management sharing their plans for future. One person might have several managers all giving him different tasks to do and sometimes even not knowing that these things contradict each other. Traders are quite special people - sometimes hard to deal with.
