      My office had a window (most desks don't)

      Cons

      High tech? No chance. Working practices from the 1960s. Huge reluctance to trust staff with working hours. I've never worked somewhere with such low morale. All everyone does is talk about leaving and browse job sites all day. Funny thing is wider Veolia group is so different but VNS in Abingdon seems to run under it's own bygone era regime where managers think they are superior humans.

      NOT a great employer

      Pros

      Free car parking (as long as you park the right way around or face the wrath of passive aggressive notes on your windscreen).

      Cons

      Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviews here (apart from the suspicious one praising HR). This place has lost its direction. I am not sure what the scope is anymore. Are we an engineering company or just an outfit pretending to be? The HR stuff really is embarrassing in this day and age. We tend to laugh about it but it does put you on edge and really isn't the way to treat a team of highly educated people.

      A great place to learn and then leave

      Pros

      The work culture is very supportive and pro learning and developing. You can learn almost anything you want and be empowered to use that in your work. Direct line managers are generally good.

      Cons

      Nothing is ever really delivered, and if it is then it is on a very delayed timeline with enormous cost overruns. The company is lying to it's customers and shareholders about how it deals with waste because local policy does not incentivise change. They make the vast majority of their profit from burning waste or selling non renewable energy direct or into the grid. The career opportunities are limited due to a low turnover at senior levels and restructures whenever senior leaders move/leave. Pay is nowhere near London rates for similar roles.
