Pros

Salary is one of the best in the analytics industry

Cons

The Management and the HR appeared totally disinterested in how the Center is run. The attitude of the Center head towards his staff is downright disrespectful. Many are witnesses to and victims of rude comments of this particularly cocky boss. Being a franchisee business model, its very thin on its employee base. This fact is a lot more pronounced in this office. With just a handful of people, all (for all practical purposes) of them reporting into a single general (way apt than manager as a word), this boss has no one to question him for his attitude - his managers are based out of the US and the India HR works out of Mumbai. If you are harassed and feel depressed, you would have no one to reach out to. This comment might be very specific to a particular individual and one may choose to ignore this rant. But for a center with just 13-15 employees, its very important to understand the attitude of this one person. If you don't happen to like him (which I am sure no reasonable person would) you would have no where else to go but quit. The first half of 2014 has seen 30% of its staff quit precisely for this reason. The organization now appears to be struggling to back-fill. Hopefully, this comment seals-off their chances completely.

Pros

You will learn what not to do at a workplace - valuable life lesson Growth opportunities are excellent - only if you are in the right lobby group Flexible hours - you can chose which 12 hours of the day you work

Cons

Extreme lobbying is the real KPI – Your talent doesn't matter unless you're from Hyderabad or the director’s WhatsApp group. People Fired for missing a code review Natural disasters? Too bad. Pune office will still expect you to swim in and clock your hours — rain, flood, apocalypse, or zombie invasion. 7.59 hours = Red Flag. Because clearly, you’ve committed a grave sin by not hitting that sweet, sacred 8-hour mark. 3 x 8 hours mandatory – dying or not. Fever? Fracture? Postpartum? Doesn’t matter. Only thing that counts here is your time sheet. Pregnant? You're on your own. Maternity empathy must’ve been lost in their last “values workshop.” Dictatorship vibes from Pune leadership. They expect U.S. employees to commute like they’re in a tuk-tuk in Mumbai. Traffic? Productivity? Who cares. Your commute nightmare is your problem, not theirs. Just be at your desk on time — or else. Townhall wisdom of the year: "Cabs are a benefit, not an entitlement" – said proudly by Pune managment and leadership. Apparently, getting home alive is optional. Unsafe commutes = your responsibility. If you die getting to work because you were rushing to clock 8 hours, don’t expect the company to blink. Managers allergic to pings. Approach them at your own risk — even a “Hi” might be too much for their royal patience. Firing based on face value. Literally. If they don’t like how you look, start packing. Hiring is just an extended family reunion. Nepotism isn’t hidden here — it’s celebrated with offer letters. HR is now a chatbot. Don’t expect empathy, help, or answers — just loops of "we'll get back to you" and "check the policy." HR has gone rogue. Policies change mid-week, accountability is a joke, and transparency is a myth. New director = new drama. A new director from denver wants to fire engineers and everyone else who is not a think tank — still no one knows what that means, No work-life balance, just work-work imbalance. US time zone calls after hours? That’s your new hobby. IST hours + US overlap = double shift. Forget family time. Forget sleep. Your calendar will thank you. Spineless Indian managers. Watching silently from the sidelines while everything burns around them. Don't join WU. Call centers offer more respect, and McDonald's has better policies. Change Management? Start with replacing the entire top brass. Save WU before it eats itself.

Pros

Great benefits (but pay is so-so) nice co-workers Hybrid office option (have to have at least 3 days in the office) unlimited time off socially conscience company

Cons

- Truly some of the dumbest executive leadership. CEO and CIO - Really nice but dumb coworkers, you won't be intellectually challenged, except to figure out WUs processes - that change regularly but are not adequately documented. - IT is mostly offshore and has an incredible churn rate, so offshore people don't know anything - lack of career growth. You get pigeon holed unless you're in the clique. - the company is rebuilding after the previous CEO and CIO/C Product Officer made a mess of things by listening to consultants and following the buzzward processes and only wanted to hear positive messages that went along with their BS. But current leadership is "rebuilding" by whacking teams with no thorough thought of how to use the experience of the people they want to let go. Yet they leave teams that everyone knows are useless. - they claim to be hiring skill developers systems folks, but are offering low pay...so empty positions, delaying work and forcing some to work ridiculous hours per week.

Western Union Response

Thank you for leaving a review and for your 9+ years of working with Western Union. It’s unfortunate to read about your frustration with previous ways of working in IT. We continuously look for ways to improve the way we work. We also focus on supporting our employees and encouraging them to provide feedback and have discussions with their leaders about a range of topics such as the Company, goals, deliverables, roadblocks, and team atmosphere. Activities such as Technology Office hours, "Ask Me Anything" sessions with leaders, "Western Union Listens" employee survey, All Hands events, and one-on-one conversations with direct leaders are just a few examples where employees can express their views and have open discussions with leaders on better ways of working. Throughout our company’s lifespan, we have continuously strived to evolve to serve our customers, and this phase of our evolution is no different. Since the announcement of our new Evolve 2025 strategy, Western Union has been undergoing a transition into adopting structures and processes that enable us to execute our strategy and serve our customers better. These improvements have been gradually rolling out across the Technology team and the rest of the organization. In the Technology team specifically, we constantly look for ways to increase productivity and efficiency to provide better solutions for our customers. We look forward to our leaders and employees evolving alongside the rest of the organization as we work to achieve our mission of becoming the world’s most accessible financial services company. - Rūta Dukštaitė, Group Leader for Human Resources
