Pros

The salary is competitive and the bonus set up is very lucrative. If money is your sole motivator and privacy/work life balance doesn't matter to you this is the place for you. You will be interacting with people in lots of different types of industries, which is exciting and an excellent business learning opportunity.

Cons

Meltwater presents itself as a "work hard, play hard" environment. To quote another reviewer "only the ambitious need apply." This mindset is absolute nonsense. There are great, hard-working people who don't dislike Meltwater because they are lazy, unmotivated or any of the other insulting terms they imply for those who leave; they dislike Meltwater because from day one you are lying to clients in an unnecessary pressure cooker for unnecessary work. The software isn't good. It's not bad, but if you are selling it, you will be grandly overselling while simultaneously navigating aggressive, immature management who encourage you to "lock clients into the discount" by signing a contract on the phone. You will be heavily pressuring clients, and you will be in a super competitive, numbers driven environment. In my experience, everyone from the MD of the office, to the top selling Sales Managers, to the newest Sales Consultants was miserably pressured all the time and coming to work was painful all around.

Pros

Fun group of people. For the most part. Can be a really fun crowd that has a great time. Most people are characters and that creates a really fun environment.

Cons

well. very sketchy sales tactics. you didnt hear? there's a price increase next month and you have to renew early to avoid it......this tactic is so over played it was embarrassing to have to even say. regardless, day in and day out, managers force this sleezy tactic on the reps and they are only hurting themselves in the end. How many times can a client hear the same nonsense? they start you on a very low salary, claiming the rest will be made in bonuses.....when asked how many people actually hit target, meaning 96k a year, I was told 80 percent. in reality this doesnt happen even 15 percent among customer success reps so you end up feeling lied to within the first month or so. also - automatic renewals.....the worst. they basically make you renew clients without them agreeing, it was in the fine print, but when you do that for 20K, people tend to have a problem. and it is the rep who has to fight it out, not accounts receiveable. questions to consider.... why is everyone under the age of 30? why is the manager to rep ratio so crazy? what turnover? the company is a great place for recent graduates to start and cut their teeth. you really wont find another company like it. but there is a lot of shadyness that comes with the experience.

Pros

My experience is with the client acquisition or "sales consultant" role in which they provide a great training program if you are new to sales. Once you start, if you work nonstop (which they will make you) and you're really good you can make a lot of money. They also love to have a good time and throw very fun office/corporate events.

Cons

On February 23 I was asked to write a great review on here and then harassed until I showed them I had done so (another reviewer noticed this and pointed out in their review how the positive reviews are around Feb 20-25). It is no coincidence. This kind of pressure and passive aggressive environment is the norm. Management is incredibly shady in their policies and the way the teams are run. One example - you are paid hourly yet they wont let you submit overtime hours (saying its in your benefit because of the commission pay structure). Management encourages and teaches deceiving sales practices such as telling a client clicking an order form "just locks in the discount", lying about the product such as number of media contacts in our database and the bounce rate. Telling them all data goes back to 2009 when only part of it does. At the end of the day they will have you say whatever and do whatever high pressure, pushy sales tactic to close. The company has a terrible reputation and you are told frequently by prior clients and other people you contact that they want nothing to do with Meltwater (no matter how sweet you sound). I honestly feel badly about some vulnerable people who they had me convince to buy additional products they didn't really need since "it was such a good discount" and "we're raising our pricing soon if you want it in the future". Lastly, there is no work/life balance if you are on the client acquisition side and they will make you feel horrible and fire you pretty quickly if you don't do whatever to hit that quota (thankfully never missed a quota).
