Pros

Recognized brand to work for. Company perks and learning platforms are good. Most team members work hard to contribute to company success.

Cons

Core platforms still run on a lot of legacy which creates several limitations for improvements and innovation. Career growth in company is very limited. Several team leaders are very insecure about their jobs and try not to mentor teams, in order to hold on to their jobs. Extremely difficult to get a raise or promotion. Extensive turnover of leadership team with significant changes every year. Sr. Management in the Tech leadership team seem to lack a good understanding of payments, and do not work well with Product teams, which creates several roadblocks when trying to improve against the competition.

Pros

FTO....if you land in a org which supports it.

Cons

New leadership has brought a fresh breathe of air to the company with signs of hope but at the end of the day, this leadership team does not care about the workforce AT ALL. They say all the right things but do not practice what they preach. Constantly cutting workforce which exponentially increasing workload with all these 'new initiatives' which are desperately trying to make the company competitive after many years of neglect from old leadership but sadly, it's too late. WU simply does not have the IT infrastructure nor the willingness to spend in order to make WU truly competitive with companies like Remitly. IT is in a world of hurt, well over a year of backlog work needed to be done while trying to keep things together using 50yr old systems. Spend is completely hypocritical where virtually all employee benefits have been slashed but yet C-suite still enjoys their 5-star meals and trips on the company Jet. Don't believe the whole pitch about compensation being at market value and competitive bonuses....bonuses have been around 50% for many years now. It's just sad overall. Time to abandon ship.....

Pros

Casual work environment and a generally relaxed style of management. Flexible WFH options is a plus.

Cons

Pay: US pay is based on the "national" pay-scale even though it is well known that the Denver cost of living is well above the national average. When I inquired HR about this and provided published market pay studies to back up my question, all I got back was how great the benefits are, which in reality, the WU benefits are average at best for the Denver area. HR: HR has way too much power and gets in the way of it all. Many of my coworkers have departed in the past year due to better pay, benefits, HR blocking their growth at WU and a general feeling of actually having a voice within the organization. I thought they were wrong but as it turns out, my decision to work at WU for as long as I have was wrong. My Sr Manager, Director and SVP have all approved a pay grade and title change for me as recognition of using new to WU technology to improve processes and save the company money, but HR has been pushing back on this change for 5 months now, one excuse after the other and its to the point that the SVP scheduled a meeting with me to apologize and has admitted that he himself feels as if he has no say or voice at WU anymore. Leadership preaches good hard work is rewarded but HR has some other ideas. Leadership: Every single sentence that comes out of the CEO/CFO's mouth starts with "returning shareholder value"....I get it, we are publicly traded but employees are starting to feel that we mean nothing when it comes to shareholder value. Returning value to shareholders: Outsourcing, outsourcing and more outsourcing seems to be the only way that leadership knows how to cut operating costs and in turn, all this creates is a system and data flow nightmare for all those left at HQ to deal with. If you love a non-stop stream of IT tickets being opened for reports, daily and manual process to fix data issues, and inaccessible data being processed half-way across the globe by individuals that can barely communicate with you, WU is the place for you! WU loves layoffs as well in the name of "saving-costs"...but then we LEASE a new HQ while the old HW campus (which WU owns btw) sits barely occupied?

We appreciate you sharing your feedback about your role in our Denver office. We’re glad that the flexibility of a work-life balance is a pro. However, we are disappointed to learn about your experience with various teams at Western Union. As we have shared, we realized that we needed to change the way we worked to ensure we retain and build on our strengths as a leader in cross-border and cross-currency money movement. With that said, we are experiencing many positive changes throughout the organization including our HR team. Our HR function is changing to a people approach to better enable the success of each employee. We understand that leadership has a great impact on the organization, so we hold ourselves and our leaders to the highest standards of integrity. We want all employees to be treated fairly and with respect and we will share your feedback to continue to promote positive change. We also want to encourage you to provide organizational feedback in other ways. Whether that is speaking with your manager or filling out WU Listens survey, we are open to any and all feedback in order to ensure we are providing the best opportunities for all our employees!
